Why Keeping Busy When Unemployed Is Critical - Work It Daily
Why Keeping Busy When Unemployed Is Critical - Work It Daily If thereâs one thing Iâve noticed about being unemployed it's that it gets dull really fast. Though Iâm currently employed, it wasnât always that way. I had three solid months of unemployment before I found my current job, and it was enough time for me to realize that you can only search the job boards for so long before you go crazy. Not only is this damaging to your job search, but it causes you to pick up lazy habits. You have to stay productive, even if youâre unemployed. In an interview with Forbes.com, corporate veteran and author Andy Teach stated that it's important to stay productive all year round. âYou have a job to do and youâre always expected to produce great results, no matter what time of the year it is,â he said. While this statement was meant for the employed audience, it can definitely be applied to the unemployed, because like it or not, you do have a job and that job is to get hired. In addition, the article goes on to say âyour productivity early in the year can affect your attitude, and even performance, later on.â It makes sense if you've had a bad year and haven't had any luck finding a job. Did you ever stop to think it might have something to do with your productivity habits? Now would be a good time to reevaluate your habits and toss out the bad ones. The Keys To Keeping Busy When Unemployed Successful people do productive things before their day even begins. Things like: waking up early, working out, reevaluating goals, and reading the news create energetic, informed, mindful individuals who have a set plan and know where they're going - all because of their productive habits. The next time you want to take a break from the job boards, consider starting the day early to get your head in the right mindset. Being productive increases your chances of staying productive for when you finally land that new job. Photo Credit: Shutterstock Have you joined our career growth club?Join Us Today!

Changing Careers 7 Details to Include on Your Resume
Changing Careers 7 Details to Include on Your Resume Changing Careers? 7 Details to Include on Your ResumeHere are seven ways to refresh your resume if youre seeking a career change. Many people cruise along on their career path only to eventually come to a abspaltung in the road and decide its time for sohonigweinhing new. The average employee changes jobs 10 to 15 times throughout his or her entire career, and switching careers altogether has become part of the norm. If youre ready for a career switch, the last thing you want to do is departure over. After all, you already have years worth of education, experience, training, and credentials under your belt. So how can you best apply these qualities to your career transition? Its important to organize and update your resume, making it applicable to the new kind of position youre looking for. Our resume experts at TopResume can help, starting with a free resume review with personalized feedback and recommendations as they pertain to ne w job opportunities and career growth. You dont have to start from a clean slate, but there are some essential elements your resume should include (or exclude), as illustrated below. It may look a whole lot different than what youre used to1. The job seekers goals are clearDefine your new job goal up front and detail why you are qualified for the position. If you have minimal experience in the field, you can still glean qualifications and skills from your previous job experience. For example, a senior-level position highlights management and leadership potential, a hybrid role with multiple responsibilities shows flexibility and adaptability, and highlighting certifications and awards portrays dedication to stay on top of current industry trends.2. Achievements are quantified where possibleNumbers help paint a better picture for potential employers. Vague language like managed budgets and cut costs arent nearly as impressive as specifying that the budget was $1 million or that you c ut costs by 20 percent. Direct numbers highlight your contributions and accomplishments in a way that is easy for recruiters and employers to assess. The assumption is that you have met your job role expectations, but what have you done beyond the basic job description? Potential employers want to see a candidate that stands out, not one who only does the minimum. Numbers are a quantifiable way to showcase excellence in your previous role(s).3. The resume plays up the job seekers best selling pointsIf youre looking for a career change, you may have limited experience that pertains to the new industry and/or position youre seeking. In this case, highlight other positives instead. This may include adapting new skills or learning advanced programs. It can also be reflected in your extracurricular activities, like volunteer opportunities or leadership positions in different organizations. Draw attention to what makes you stand out as a job candidate, not what may make you underqualified. 4. The resume is optimized with relevant keywordsMany companies use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to pre-screen resumes and rank them based on content. Only the fruchtwein qualified candidates are then forwarded to HR for review. Ensure your resume includes keywords that are included in the posted job description or a position similar to what youre looking for. It will help your resume from getting overlooked.5. The resume format is consistentThere are an endless number of formats people choose for their resumes. The key is to be consistent with details like capitalization, numbers, dates, and abbreviations. For example, if you spell out a state in one job role, dont abbreviate it in another. When it comes to making a first impression with your resume, its all about the details. A resume that has consistent formatting and is free of grammatical errors will look mora polished and professional.6. The emphasis is placed on the job seekers most recent work experienceApplicants with m ultiple job roles dont need to list a full description and bullet points for each position. Your current role is the one that should have the longest description and detail your responsibilities and achievements. If your most recent role isnt relevant to your current job goals, you can limit this information and highlight the areas that are more applicable. Your resume should paint a chronological picture of your work history and advancement with the most significant information listed at the top.7. The Education section is at the end of the resumeIf youre considering a career change, then youre probably beyond an entry-level resume which typically places education more closely to the top. For mid-level professionals and above, move your education section to the end. Although your educational background is still important, its not as big of a selling point as your skills and experience in the workforce.A career change can be an exciting time, but you want to make sure youre well pre pared to enter a new industry by updating your resume. Sell your skills and soar to the top of recruiting lists by addressing each of these seven points. Once your resume is more reflective of your future goals in the industry you desire, the easier it will be to match you with potential job opportunities that meet your career aspirations.mucksmuschenstill struggling with your career-change resume? Why Women Leave Companies 2
Why Women Leave Companies 2There are a lot of misconceptions and contradictory data when it comes to why women leave their jobs. According to Lean Ins 2018 Women in the Workplace Report, very few women surveyed said they were leaving to focus on family, which calls into question one of the most common assumptions about why women leave. However, other sources suggest that women are expected to - and often do - leave their jobs when childcare responsibilities come calling... in no small part due to the fact that their husbands are often making more money (or stand to do so in the long term, if theyre free to work longer hours).Furthermore, research has shown that women in tech are twice as likely to leave as men -- and that most of these departures happen mid-career, when promotions and leadership opportunities are most readily becoming available. So, whats at the heart of the issue? And if attrition doesnt explain the gender gap in corporate leadership, then what does? Were asking you to help us understand.*This survey is currently closed*(function(t,e,s,n)

How to Say Farewell When You Are Leaving a Job
How to Say Farewell When You Are Leaving a JobHow to Say Farewell When You Are Leaving a JobYou have lost your job, or youve found a new one, and youre moving on. As you depart, its important to take the time to say farewell to your co-workers. Not only is it courteous to let them know you are leaving (particularly if you work on projects together), but writing farewell notes also allows you to provide them with your contact information so that you can keep in touch. You never know when you might need to ask colleagues to provide you with a reference. By maintaining contact on cordial, mutually supportive terms, you strengthen your professional network and keep the door open for continuing work and social opportunities. The Best Way to Say Farewell Whats the best way to say farewell to your co-workers? Dont send a mass schmelzglas. Instead, send personalized individual emails or messages via LinkedIn, rather than group messages, so your farewell message is personal. You can use o ne of these sample farewell letters as a model to let colleagues, clients, and your connections know that you are moving on. Dont simply copy and paste one of these samples, however. Youll want to personalize it so that it specifically reflects the business and the personal relationship you have with the recipient. Tips for Saying Farewell to Co-Workers Connect on LinkedIn - Be sure your LinkedIn account includes your email address, not your work address. Then, if youre not already connected with your colleagues on LinkedIn, connect now.Friend on Facebook - When you are friends with your co-workers, make sure youre connected on Facebook, too. Now that youre not working together, the boundaries between work and your personal life are gone, and you will be able to enjoy the camaraderie through social media that many employers restrict their employees from participating in. Say goodbye via LinkedIn or email - send an email message or a LinkedIn message to the co-workers you know we ll, but not necessarily to the entire company.Keep your message brief and to the point. Dont go into details (positive or negative) about why youre leaving. Just let your co-workers know youre leaving, and if youre so inclined, offer to help during the transition.Do mention projects you have worked on together or events you have enjoyed together. This farewell letter is personal rather than formal. Remember to say thank you. Farewell letters are as much about expressing your gratitude to your colleagues as they are about saying good-bye. At some point during your work together, the colleague you are writing to probably collaborated with you on a project or task, offered advice, or provided professional training. Identify a specific example (or two) when you were grateful for their assistance. Thank them for this so that they know you have valued them as your colleague and friend.Include your contact information - including your LinkedIn URL, your email address, and your phone number in your message, so your co-workers can stay in touch. If you would be willing to write professional recommendations for them in the future, then express your willingness to do this should the occasion arise. Take a look at our sample farewell letters to get advice on how to say goodbye. When Youve Been Fired or Laid Off? Even though it may feel awkward if you have been fired or laid off, its still a good idea to let your co-workers know that you are leaving or gone. When employees are laid off or fired, this affects the overall company culture. When you fail to show up for work, your closest colleagues will wonder what is going on. Very few people enjoy sudden changes in their work environment. Your colleagues may fear that their jobs may soon be on the line, and they will also have to personally deal with the transitional stress and headaches that arise when a team member is eliminated or replaced. If you still have internal email access before your final exit, you can use th is to send a briefer email letter to your peers than you might use on LinkedIn or through your email account. Let them know youll be moving on. Ask for job search assistance, if its appropriate, and provide your personal contact information so that they can remain connected to you if they wish.
