Why Keeping Busy When Unemployed Is Critical - Work It Daily If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about being unemployed it's that it gets dull really fast. Though I’m currently employed, it wasn’t always that way. I had three solid months of unemployment before I found my current job, and it was enough time for me to realize that you can only search the job boards for so long before you go crazy. Not only is this damaging to your job search, but it causes you to pick up lazy habits. You have to stay productive, even if you’re unemployed. In an interview with Forbes.com, corporate veteran and author Andy Teach stated that it's important to stay productive all year round. “You have a job to do and you’re always expected to produce great results, no matter what time of the year it is,” he said. While this statement was meant for the employed audience, it can definitely be applied to the unemployed, because like it or not, you do have a job and that job is to get hired. In addition, the article goes on to say “your productivity early in the year can affect your attitude, and even performance, later on.” It makes sense if you've had a bad year and haven't had any luck finding a job. Did you ever stop to think it might have something to do with your productivity habits? Now would be a good time to reevaluate your habits and toss out the bad ones. The Keys To Keeping Busy When Unemployed Successful people do productive things before their day even begins. Things like: waking up early, working out, reevaluating goals, and reading the news create energetic, informed, mindful individuals who have a set plan and know where they're going - all because of their productive habits. The next time you want to take a break from the job boards, consider starting the day early to get your head in the right mindset.
